WE LOVE

DOGS!

Katharine Calderwood’s first love was a gorgeous black Labrador Retriever named Liberty. While her first childhood pet will always have a special place in her heart, Katharine went on to love and adore several other dogs during her childhood and early adulthood, including raising a terrific puppy named Lisa as part of the Seeing Eye program in Morristown, NJ.

When her daughter, Charlotte, began to beg for a dog, including a years-long campaign of signs, birthday requests, and holiday wishes, the family began to research dogs that would fit well with the family despite her father and brother’s dog allergies. Coincidentally enough, Andrew, Charlotte’s father is Australian, so finding the Australian Labradoodle breed that combined Katharine’s love of labs with a nod to Andrew’s Australian roots in a hypoallergenic package seemed to be just the answer.

In another stroke of wild good fortune, Katharine found Carol Lindley in 2015, the owner and breeder of Nutmeg Labradoodles in Andover, CT. Carol sold the family their very first Australian Labradoodle, Pavlova, named for the family’s favorite Australian dessert. In a true testament to the amazing temperament and intelligence of the breed, Katharine and Charlotte took Pavlova to a number of obedience classes to become a certified Pet Partners therapy dog team.  Prior to Covid, Pavlova made numerous visits to nursing homes and schools to provide her calm, loving, and gentle presence to people experiencing stressful life events, including surgery, school exams, and physical rehabilitation.

Katharine and Carol kept in touch and as their friendship developed, Carol gave the family the opportunity to become the guardian family for another Australian Labradoodle named Wallaby. In 2019, Carol bred Wallaby to Oliver, and Wallaby delivered a beautiful litter of six puppies during a summer heatwave. Fast forward to the spring of 2020, the next time Wallaby would be bred, and the world was in quarantine. After a wonderful suggestion by Katharine’s favorite veterinarian, Dr. Meredith Re, Carol and Katharine planned to have Wallaby breed again and deliver at Katharine’s house, much to the wild delight and enthusiasm of the whole family.

In July 2020, Wallaby delivered eight gorgeous chocolate puppies and the whole experience brought so much joy to the family, they were all hooked. In consultation with Carol and under her wise, experienced guidance, the Nutmeg Labradoodles by the Sea breeding program was born. Katharine and Charlotte are delighted to continue the wonderful line of kind, healthy, intelligent, loving dogs that so represent the Australian Labradoodle breed.

OUR FIRST

AUSTRALIAN LABRADOODLE

When we purchased our first Australian Labradoodle from Carol Lindley, Andrew and I made it a suprise for the kids. On this day, we told the three of them that we were going to go see puppies, but that we weren’t going to bring any home. We had already had family discussions about what we would name our theoretical dog and settled on Pavlova (shortened to Lovey, a most appropriate nickname). Carol was totally on board and helped us execute the plan to perfection. Enjoy the happy tears of one seriously thrilled 10-year-old girl!

IF YOU DON’T OWN A DOG, AT LEAST ONE, THERE MAY NOT NECESSARILY BE ANYTHING WRONG WITH YOU, BUT THERE MAY BE SOMETHING WRONG WITH YOUR LIFE.
